Young people join trade unions

German trade unions (about 18% of the work force) have a stronger legitimacy than their French counterparts (8%), and both have been suffering from the steady age increase of their members. It seems as if those times were over: not only has the overall number of members stabilized in 2012 (6,1 millions), there was actually a net increase of member below age 27 (plus 3,6%).
